Reigoldswil – Angliberg – Burtenflue – Hinterewasserfallen (2-3 hours)

This walk is quite a climb from 509m to over 1100m – going up towards Passwang and taking in part of the Jurahoehenweg. You need to be quite fit to do this. However the reward is a cablecar or scooter ride back to Reigoldswil.

Description

Getting off the bus 70 from Reigoldswil Dorfplatz, follow the signs for the cablecar and Hinterewasserfallen for a few hundred metres until you get to a right-turning signposted Lauwil, Burtenflue, Angliberg.

Baselland Vista

Taking this right turning, walk through the village following wanderweg signs – you will eventually get onto a gravel path which you follow for about half a km until you get to a junction of 3 paths. Take the left turning – signposted Burtenflue/Angliberg. The path curves right around and makes for steep climbing – a feature of this walk.

Follow the wanderweg signs for about 2 km until you get the Angliberg waymark. The paths on this section will go steeply upward and will take you through open meadow and woodland. Make use of the various benches along the way – some give splendid views.

At the Angliberg waymark, you will see a sign for Lauwil pointing right – ignore this and keep walking straight ahead for Burtenflue which you will reach after another 2km. Here you will get spectacular views over Baselland.

At this point, you can continue straight on to Hinterewasserfallen – which is about 20mins walk. However for more of a challenge, turn right – towards the farm through the gate – signposted Passwang, and just before you reach the main farm buildings, turn left and follow the path that goes through the farm gate and up away to the right.

At the next wanderweg sign turn left (signposted Passwang) to cross a meadow and walk towards the trees and into the woods. You will make a quite steep climb up through the wooded area, and the wanderweg markings will lead you to a gap in the rocks and you have to climb down using the chains provided for support – careful in icy weather!

Follow the wanderweg markings through the woods – you will eventually reach a clearing where you will see a farmhouse/gasthaus. Follow the Jurahoehenweg (red on the tip) signs for Hinterewasserfallen through the cow field and into another wooded area.

You will now walk along a wooded mountain ridge and following signs for Hinterewasserfallen you will eventually descend onto an asphalt road and this will take you to the Berggasthaus restaurant. This serves very cold beer and this point you are allowed to have at least one. I can also recommend the doorstep sandwiches.

About 5mins walk from the restaurant is the Gondelbahn where you can get a lift down to Reigoldswil. You can also hire scooters there which are fun. Do note the opening times before you set out and make sure you have plenty of time to get there.
