A trip to Legoland (more than just a block away…)

I made it to Legoland over the weekend and it ended up being roughly a 3 1/2 hour drive from Basel. It is in between Munich and Stuttgart, so there are no large cities immediately around it. We drove up Fri. night, spent the night, and arrived Sat. morning at Legoland at opening time-10:00. We spent the entire day there till closing- 18:00. The boys absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop talking about it for a few days. It had rides and entertainment for all ages.
My 7 year old entered a driving course in which they get to drive Lego “Audis” and then receive a drivers license afterwards with his picture on it. There were similar cars, only smaller, for my 3 year old to drive on his own- which he loved!
There is a Lego factory where you get to see the Lego getting made and then receive a fresh one at the end of the tour. There is a miniature Legoland set up of different cities in Europe which is neat to see.
All in all, it kept us busy the entire day and we still didn’t get to do everything, BUT, we have been to Europa-park many times and if you are looking for an amusement park, I would recommend it over Legoland.
Europa-park is much bigger with more to do and is only an hour or so from Basel. If your children are Lego maniacs like mine, it is a special thing for them, however if you just want a great amusement park- go for Europa-park (I have even heard from a few people that it is even better than Euro Disney in Paris). Also, Europa-park is having a special Halloween party every weekend this month (May not be on until October, if at all: check with Legoland before travelling. Ed). We went last year and the boys had a fun time! Hope this helps any future Legoland users.
